House of Terror Museum to remember Roma heroes of 1956, victims of Holocaust on Int'l Roma Day
The Roma heroes of Hungary's 1956 anti-Soviet revolution and the Roma victims of the Holocaust will be remembered in the Budapest House of Terror museum on Friday
The museum will show documentaries about the Roma heroes of the 1956 revolution throughout the day. The heroes will also be presented to the public on several posters at tram stations across Budapest, he said.
Bekes noted that 6-8 percent of those involved in the 1956 revolution were Roma, many of whom got murdered.
The events are organised in cooperation with the human resources ministry and the Roma Press Centre.
International Roma Day on April 8 marks the first international meeting of Roma activists near London in 1971. At its inaugural session, the International Romani Union accepted the Romani flag and adopted the song 'Gelem, Gelem' as an anthem.
