Hungarian May Day - 1st of May
Many towns raise May poles and festivals with various themes are organised around the holiday. As with other holidays, whenever 1 May falls on a Tuesday or Thursday the holiday officially becomes a long weekend when families take off to travel and hotels are booked full. Left-wing parties continue to hold public rallies commemorating Labour Day.
'Labour Day' is a public holiday in Hungary, just as in most other countries on the 1st day of May. It used to be called 'International Labor Day', and was one of the 'communist holidays'. This Sunday 'May Day' in Hungary offers a range of live music, family and sports programs, read on for event details.
